Public Safety

The men and women who keep our city safe every day also need to be supported. Unfortunately, their voices are going unheard. As Councilwoman At-Large, Paula Alford will stand with Paterson's firefighters and police officers to build a stronger, safer city–fighting for fair benefits, professional growth, up-to-date equipment and long-term community trust.

Advocating for firefighters and police officers

As Councilwoman At-Large, Paula Alford is committed to advocating for the city’s firefighters and has received the endorsements of the Paterson Fire Association–FMBA Local 202 and the Paterson Fire Association/FMBA Local 2.

* Fair benefits and contracts: Partner with legislators to fix health care and contract issues.

* Expand and promote: Grow departments for more hires and career advancement.

* Essential resources: Work with the administration to ensure firefighters and police have the tools, technology, and equipment they need to protect every neighborhood.

Building stronger relationships between police officers, firefighters and the community

There is strength in unity. As Councilwoman At-Large, Paula Alford will create opportunities to increase understanding and cooperation between Patersonians, police officers and firefighters. She is committed to organizing safety awareness programs, neighborhood partnerships and open communication to build trust and stronger, safer communities.

Increase responsiveness to residents

There is a consistent and lengthy delay when residents call the police department. As Councilwoman At-Large, Paula Alford will explore solutions to this issue by bringing together the community, police department, and other stakeholders to understand how the police can be supported better in an effort to be more efficient and responsive to residents.
